Come Shop, Play, Stay, Eat & Explore in Historic Bisbee
We have moved to an old mining town in the Southeast corner of Arizona.
The Town
Bisbee was founded in 1880 after the discovery of copper ore by U.S. Army scouts. It quickly became known as the “Queen of the Copper Camps,” attracting thousands of miners and their families. At its peak, Bisbee was the largest city between St. Louis and San Francisco, boasting a population of over 20,000. The town’s mining operations were primarily led by the Phelps Dodge Company, which established its headquarters in Bisbee and played a significant role in the town’s development
The Desert
Bisbee sits in the Mule Mountains of southeastern Arizona, about 5,500–5,538 feet above sea level, just eight miles from the Mexican border Wikipedia+1. It is part of the high desert — a vast, arid region defined by low rainfall, extreme temperature swings, and dramatic mountain backdrops — but Bisbee’s setting is unique for its colorful, walkable downtown and preserved mining heritage.
Landscape and Climate
The high desert around Bisbee is characterized by terracotta-colored sandstone, red and orange rock formations, and steep, rugged canyons Islands. The Mule Mountains provide a dramatic backdrop, with houses perched on hillsides connected by staircases, and the air is generally cooler than the low desert due to the elevation www.arizonan.com. Summers are hot and dry, but winters are mild, with occasional snow in the mountains.
